A veteran communication professional, Sharon O’Brien has recently returned to New Orleans after practicing healthcare public relations throughout the country.
As principal of WordHead, a Colorado-based marketing communications consultancy, Sharon managed large hospital and pharmaceutical accounts. Among her notable accomplishments, she steered the national launch of an electronic medical record product and provided public relations strategy and social media planning to a statewide health organization. Additionally, she promoted a line of specialty vitamins, and developed numerous health promotion projects for chronic diseases and behavioral health clients.
Before establishing WordHead, she served as director of corporate marketing for University Health System in San Antonio, TX. She rebranded the public health system, instituted service line marketing, and won back preference and market share lost to competitors.
As a marketing and public relations maven for Baptist Medical Center and Southeast Baptist Hospital, she successfully matched service lines with local, regional and national partners, reducing the expense of presenting month long special events for heart and cancer awareness observances. Her work with community organizations resulted in Pink Ribbon Sunday and Latinas for the Cure in association with Astra Zeneca and Susan G. Komen Foundation. At Humana, Sharon was a member of the Humana Gold Plus sales team, focusing on the use of special events to generate leads and public relations.
Her New Orleans credentials include leadership roles at EyeCare Associates, Rehabilitation Institute of New Orleans, and Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital. She has earned more than 30 writing and editing awards and has presented at national and regional professional meetings.
